Oh, the Erasmus blues! We know your pain. Settling back into your home country feels hard and exhausting, and you can’t help but miss those carefree Erasmus moments with your international friends. Missing your friends is one of the worst feelings ever, isn’t it? You can’t help but daydream of packing your bags and going back to the city that changed your life, until the solution dawns on you: a reunion!
So what makes a great reunion? Reuniting with your friends, obviously, and going back to the places you love so much is one thing, but how can you make this experience even more special?
Live all together again
Renting an apartment can be so much easier, and it feels more like home. Hotels and hostels are great, but sharing an apartment is so much more comfortable, private and less touristy. You can have your own space, arrange things to your liking, and it certainly brings back memories of how it really felt to live there! After all, this is your second home!
Practise what you learned
Is your Portuguese a little rusty? Can you still count in Swedish? Getting familiar with the language of your Erasmus country is a very significant part of your Erasmus. It’s what made you feel more like a local and made you come closer to its life and culture. Don’t let it fade away.
Ask for recipes
Now you know what they say - taste and smell have a strong connection to memory. If you realised you can’t make your favourite local dish taste the same when you make it yourself, why not ask for little tips from your favourite restaurant? Most of them might not share all of their secrets, but will definitely bring you one step closer to invoking the Erasmus memories!
Visit a new place
Going back to your favourite places is a big part of your Erasmus reunion, for sure. But what makes Erasmus truly special is getting out of your comfort zone and the endless love for exploring something new. Keeping your Erasmus spirit alive means always having a keen eye for adventure, no matter where you are!
Get in touch with new Erasmus students
If you find yourself missing the beer pong or wishing you could relive your old Erasmus parties, don’t hesitate! Don’t forget, Erasmus students are the pinnacle of friendliness and fun and will definitely welcome you back with arms wide open in this beautiful intercultural community of ours! Besides, you have so much to talk about; you can give them advice on how to make the most out of their Erasmus, and in return, you can find out about the new in-places that popped up while you were gone.
Create a memory box
While on Erasmus, you take some things for granted; truly, Erasmus is a magical state that feels like it will last forever, but it runs out so fast. So, during your last tip, make sure to snap countless pictures of everything (you can print the best of them later) and keep simple things such as tram tickets, a paper towel from your favourite cafe or even a beer cap. They can make precious memories that will fondly remind you of living abroad.
No matter how you choose to spend your Erasmus reunion, we are sure it’s going to be a wonderful and magical experience you’ll be looking back at for years to come. We hope you’ll have the time of your life and there’s nothing we’d love more other than for you to share it with us!
