This edition was made even more meaningful through our collaboration with the DIEM+ Project, supporting activities that encouraged young people to look at social issues from new perspectives and make an impact within their communities.
Different activities, different communities, one shared goal: creating an impact that lasts beyond the two weeks. A huge shoutout to our Activity in the Spotlight winners and the amazing activities organised across our network that showcased the “impactful” spirit of ESNers across the globe.
From 11 to 24 May 2026, the Erasmus Student Network once again brought communities together with the Spring edition of Social Impact Days, a biannual initiative designed to showcase the transformative potential of students and volunteers across Europe through social collaboration. This year’s campaign highlighted activities that embody ESN’s mission to enrich society through intercultural dialogue, community engagement, and civic participation.
Across 40+ countries, numerous ESN sections organised impactful initiatives that engaged both international students and local students with their communities. These activities spanned the six causes of ESN: Culture, Skills & Employability, Education & Youth, Social Inclusion, Health & Well-being, and Environmental Sustainability.
To honour outstanding contributions, the Activity in the Spotlight Team of the Activities Committee (ActiCom) of ESN International acknowledged six winning activities that exemplified creativity, outreach, and meaningful outcomes. The following initiatives stood out for their innovation and relevance: The Six Activities AitS Winners “That Shine in the Spotlight” Brighter Than Ever
“It was a great event! In-thread-ible even I had so much fun! Not only was I able to try a new hobby (that ended up being so inspiring that I returned to embroidery on fabric), but I also learned the history of The Vysivanka Day.
I really liked the company, and we had so much fun (well, I certainly did) with the challenge of trying to embroider ideas in the head onto the paper. If I had to sum up the event in one word, that would be "inspiring". I was inspired by people, I was inspired by the craft, and I was inspired by the idea of a small team making a niche yet very unique and an interesting experience.” - Participant
Participants: 12 - Cause: Culture
The winning activity in the Culture category demonstrated how art can preserve stories while building bridges between cultures. Embroidered Memory invited participants to explore cultural identity through embroidery, encouraging individuals from different backgrounds to share personal memories and traditions through textile art.
By combining creativity with intercultural dialogue, the activity transformed embroidery into a universal language of storytelling. Participants not only learned about traditional crafts but also discovered the diverse experiences that shape European communities today. The initiative fostered empathy, cultural appreciation, and meaningful conversations, reminding everyone that heritage is strengthened when shared.
Participants: 40 - Cause: Education & Youth
Dialogue lies at the heart of peaceful and inclusive societies, and this inspiring initiative placed communication at the centre of intercultural learning.
Creative Dialogue for Peace created a welcoming environment where local and international participants engaged in interactive discussions, collaborative activities, and creative expression focused on peacebuilding and mutual understanding. Rather than simply discussing cultural differences, participants explored how diversity can become a source of cooperation and innovation.
The activity empowered young people to become active citizens capable of fostering respectful dialogue beyond university campuses, reinforcing ESN's commitment to education, inclusion, and global citizenship.
Participants: 9 - Cause: Environmental Sustainability
Environmental awareness often begins by slowing down and reconnecting with nature. Through the winning Birdwatching activity, participants discovered local biodiversity while learning about the importance of protecting natural ecosystems.
Guided observations introduced participants to native bird species and encouraged reflection on environmental conservation and sustainable living. Beyond learning about wildlife, the activity highlighted how small community actions can contribute to protecting biodiversity and promoting environmentally responsible behaviour.
By bringing international students into local natural spaces, the initiative strengthened participants' appreciation for nature while encouraging long-term environmental stewardship.

Participants: 110 - Cause: Health & Well-being
Sometimes improving well-being starts with something as simple as singing together.
Kindness Karaoke created a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere where participants could connect through music while promoting kindness, emotional well-being, and community support. The activity encouraged individuals to step outside their comfort zones, celebrate one another, and build friendships in a welcoming environment.
Through shared laughter, music, and positive interactions, participants strengthened their sense of belonging while demonstrating that mental well-being can be supported through accessible, community-driven initiatives. The event showcased how joyful experiences can help reduce social isolation and foster stronger, healthier communities.
“It was incredible not just to watch a play, but actually to step in and change the direction of the scene. Being able to pause the action and analyse the oppressor’s behaviour gave us a profound psychological insight into how systemic barriers work in real life.” - Participant
Participants: 17 - Cause: Skills & Employability
Developing employability skills extends far beyond the classroom. Forum Theatre: The Art of Social Inclusion used participatory theatre to encourage critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving while addressing important social issues.
Participants became active contributors rather than passive observers, working together to explore scenarios involving discrimination, inclusion, and social responsibility. Through interactive performances, they practised empathy, conflict resolution, and collaborative decision-making skills that are equally valuable in professional environments and everyday life.
The initiative demonstrated how creative learning methods can simultaneously strengthen employability competencies and promote more inclusive communities.

Participants: 17 - Cause: Social Inclusion
The Social Inclusion winner, ESN EYE-Lodz, focused on empowering participants to become agents of positive change within their communities.
ACT for Change encouraged meaningful interaction between international students and local communities through activities designed to challenge stereotypes, promote solidarity, and create lasting social connections. By providing opportunities for open dialogue and collaboration, the initiative demonstrated that inclusion is built through shared experiences and active participation.
The activity reflected ESN's mission of enriching society through international students, proving that even small local actions can contribute to more welcoming, equitable, and connected communities.

Each of these six initiatives reflects one of the core pillars of Social Impact Days while showcasing the creativity, dedication, and commitment of ESN volunteers across Europe. Whether through art, dialogue, environmental action, wellbeing, skill development, or social inclusion, these projects demonstrate that international mobility can create meaningful change far beyond academic exchange.
